ABOUT US

A statutory body under Department of Higher Education

The UGC, in the year 1988, recommended the formation of Higher Education Council for State level planning and coordination of Higher Education. Following this recommendation, the West Bengal State Council of Higher Education (WBSCHE) was established on July 29, 1994 under the West Bengal Act XXXVII of 1994.

The Council started functioning in April, 1995 from its office at

147A, Rashbehari Avenue, Kolkata- 700029
The Council went for a refurbishment and it was freshly reconstituted under West Bengal Act X in 2015 to take care of the new challenges and growth of Higher Education sector in the state.

The Council shifted to its own building " Asanna " Plot No: DG-10/1, Premises No.13-0327, Action Area- ID, Rajarhat, Newtown, Kolkata 700156 from February 1, 2021.
